This story is deliberately not about our own family line. Around the same time that stamvader Laurens Verniers fled Antwerp, another family also named Verniers appears to have moved from that same city to Amsterdam. Despite searching, no family tie to our own line has been demonstrated. Even so, this family is worth recording — not woven into the main line, but here separately, as its own, possibly coincidental, parallel story.
Joris Verniers and his family
Joris married, before 1575 in Antwerp, Maeijken De Windt, born around 1555 in Laken (near Brussels). Together they had three children: Francois (Francys), born around 1575 in Ghent or Antwerp; Catalijne, born in 1576, likewise in Ghent or Antwerp, later married to a De Raet; and Huybrecht (Hubert), born around 1580 in Antwerp. Nothing is yet known of Joris's own death.

Married on 6 January 1605 in Amsterdam, at age 30, Pleuntje (or Plermtje-Adriaensdochter) Aerjeans. (A baptism on 20 January 1608 in the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam is attributed to him in the source — unusual for one's own baptism at age 33, however, and possibly actually the baptism of a child of the couple; to be verified.) Nothing is yet known of his death.
Also recorded as Plermtje-Adriaensdochter. Married on 6 January 1605 in Amsterdam, Francois (Francys) Verniers. Nothing is yet known of her death.

Born around 1580 in Antwerp, youngest child of Joris Verniers and Maeijken De Windt. Had two siblings: Francois and Catalijne. Lived at the Damse Sluis in Amsterdam; worked as a wijnverlater (wine decanter/stretcher) and pork seller. Married on 27 April 1606 in Amsterdam, Maritje Jans; together they had a son, Jan (Johannes), born around 1612. Died on 22 April 1629 in Amsterdam, at age 49, and was buried in the Oude Kerk there.
Born in 1581 in Amsterdam; had a sister, Duijf Jans. Married on 27 April 1606 in Amsterdam, Huybrecht (Hubert) Verniers; together they had a son, Jan (Johannes). After Huybrecht's death (1629) she remarried, on 28 February 1632, Hieronymus Prinster (b. 1581), likewise deceased. Nothing is yet known of her own death.

Born around 1612 in Amsterdam, son of Huybrecht (Hubert) Verniers and Maritje Jans. Married around 8 September 1635 in Amsterdam, at age 23, Aeltje Aris (Aerts) — described at the marriage as "van A.", assisted by his guardian Jan Smits, living on the Looiersgracht. Together they had a daughter, Diewer Jans. Died on 1 November 1647 in Amsterdam, at age 35, and was buried in the Oude Kerk there.
In a notarial deed of 20 April 1643, "Johannes Verniers, aged about 36 years" testifies, together with several others, that Francois de Gouwe, a clothes dealer, suffered damage from a hole in the wall and in the chimney, making it impossible to light a fire, and that he suffered further from dirt, wind and rain as a result. The same deed describes him as living "behind the rampart, near the town hall, where they sell the clothes". (The ages do not entirely agree with one another: "about 36 years" in 1643 points to a birth year around 1607, while "age 35" at his death in 1647 points rather to a birth year of 1612 — a difference of about five years. Such discrepancies were common because ages were often given approximately at the time; which year is correct has not yet been established.)
